WSCF Chess camps for Spring and Summer are now listed in the events column.

Spring break camps are in Wauwatosa and Grafton-Cedarburg the week of March 21. Summer Camps begin the week of June 13th and go through the week of August 18th.

All WSCF camps are 15 hours in length spread over five days. In the beginners camp the focus will be on opening principles, the six most basic mating patterns and introduction to tactics. Students are encouraged to learn how to move the pieces before coming to camp but it is not required. A great place to learn how to move the pieces online is at Chesskid.com. There students can take the first six lessons for free and easily learn how to move each piece. Each camp will have a 5 round Swiss style or round robin chess tournament where students will compete for trophies. Depending upon the size of the camps there will be one, two or three trophies awarded. All students not earning trophies will receive a medal.

The intermediate camps are for those students who have some experience in clubs, a previous class or camp or online experience. Students will focus on mastering the 6 basic check mates, some attacking strategies and learn and implement the six to 10 most used tactics. If in doubt which class is best, please contact Bob bob@wisconsinscholasticchess.org Camp fees range from $75 to $100 depending upon the hosting recreation department and whether in or out of district.
