Chess Classes


This class is for parents, coaches and local chess leaders who want to learn more about starting and managing a scholastic chess club. Knowing how to play chess is not a pre-requisite.
One goal will be to learn enough chess to play beginning students.
Topics discussed will include:

 Starting a club from scratch
 Chess club formats and volunteer roles
 Chess curriculum for beginning players
 Motivating students with chess ladders and tournaments
 Chess teaching resources
 How to run a tournament using chess tournament software
 WSCF Chess certificate program
 Sample worksheets and plans to use
 How students learn chess
 Successful Classroom Management practices
 What equipment do you really need to start a club?
 Keeping a club going after starting leader moves on
 How to incorporate Chesskid into you club using leader boards and Chesskid lessons.
 How much chess do you really need to know to lead a club.
Class will begin on Wednesday October 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and continue October 24, Nov 7, 14 and 28 and Dec 5.
Fee for the class will be $150. You can register for the class on the WSCF website or by mailing to WSCF 639 N. 25th Street Milwaukee, WI 53233. Class will meet at WSCF’s new office at 2819 W. Highland Blvd.
