WSCF instructors will lead chess camps over summer break! Each camp will be 3 hours per day for 5 days, Monday through Friday. Camps usually take place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. OR 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Exact timing depends on each camp’s parks and recreation host).
Camp Description
These camps are for those new to chess or those that are experienced and want to improve their chess skills. Students will focus on chess fundamentals including opening strategy, the 7 basic checkmates, and tactics such as Forks, Pins and Discovered Check. Students will experience a balance of chess play and instruction. They will compete in a 5-round tournament with the top 3 players winning trophies and everyone else receiving a medal. Open to students entering 2nd through 8th grades.
