Time Control  5 round Swiss, G30 or G25, d5.   If an opponent brings a clock, then player is required to use it    If games look like they will not be done with in 60 minutes then the floor TD may put a clock on the game.  Hence each player must come to the tournament prepared to use a clock.

Players need to be at their boards at 8:45 a.m. Doors will close to the tournament floor at 8:50. No access will be allowed after 8:50 for the first round. If they miss it, they need to go to Chess Control (table outside the entrance to the Wisconsin Room) and fill out a tournament action form and write “Entering 2nd round.” 

1st round byes. If you have a bye the first round please go to your board.  It is most likely you will be paired because of no-shows and onsite registrations.  If you are not there you will not receive the bye point. So important that you show up at your board

Onsite Registration. We will allow onsite registration. We will accept entry to the first round up until 8:30 a.m.. After 8:30 players will be entering Round 2. Please fill out the onsite form. Players will be given a red “tournament entry ticket” to give to a WinTD Captain in your division area. Without this “ticket” you cannot be paired. Please hold on to it and line up by the score table for your section so you can be paired. Again, you must be in the tournament floor area before the doors close at 8:50 a.m. Onsite registrants will only need a red tournament entry ticket for the first round. If registering for the 2nd round they will automatically be added. 

T-shirts. Students (or their parent/chaperone/coach) can pick up their free t-shirts after 9:30 a.m. and before 12 noon. When you pick up the shirt, please highlight your player’s name on the division player list that is at the table. After 12 noon, WSCF will start selling shirts that are left. So, you may not get a shirt your size if you do not pick it up by noon. T-shirts are $20 each. 

Pairing for each round. There are four copies of the pairing sheet for each division. One sheet will be posted outside the hall, one will be on the scoring table, one will be at the end of the row where that division starts, and one will be in the hands of the floor TD in that area. If there is a crowd by one paring sheet, please go to another place. 

Posting Results. Results will be posted after rounds 2, 3, and 4. We ask players, coaches, and parents to check for correct scores and team assignments. If something doesn’t match with what you think it should be then please fill out a tournament action form at Chess Control.

Medals. Medals will be available after round five begins. These are available to anyone scoring 0 to 2 points. Players with three points who do not get a trophy can pick up their medal after the award ceremony. 

Trophies for Virtual Tournament. These trophies will be available at the beginning of the tournament and can be picked up at chess control. 

Team Trophies. These will be done a little differently this year. Winning teams will be announced and recognized during the award ceremony. Team trophies can be picked up at chess control by a coach or parent at chess control right after the award ceremony. Chess control will have the results but will only be revealed once the award ceremony starts. 

Individual Trophies. Again, it is a little different this year. We will announce all place winners at the same time, and they are to come up and stand on the floor on top of their place number. WinTD captains will give each person their respective trophy. Once that is done, all will turn around to receive applause pictures. Both changes will enable the trophy ceremony to go much faster than in previous years. 

Withdrawals. It is particularly important that if a player is to withdraw from the tournament that we know during the last round in which they are to play. Please fill out a tournament action form and write “Withdrawing round ___” 

Our goal for round times is as follows:   Round 1 – 9:15 / Round 2 – 10:30 / Round 3 – 11:45 / Round 4 – 1:00 / Round 5 – 2:15.   This puts the award ceremony at 3:30 to 3:45 and homeward bound by 4:15. The schedule may go faster or slower and if we depart from these times we will post by chess control. 

Food. The restaurant “Union Station” will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the Street Level of the Student Union. It is in the southwest corner of the ground floor. . There are restaurants in the neighborhood as well.

Skittles/Waiting Area is in the cafeteria on the first floor or in the lounge areas on the second floor. We will not allow any skittles or hanging out east of chess control on the second floor. 

Use of Tournament Action Form. Please use this form to correct any spelling or scoring. These will be given to the WinTD captains for investigation and correction. 

Cancellations. After the first-round pairing goes out, we will not be repairing and will take care of cancellation on the floor. So please no emails. 

Parking. Paid parking in Union Garage or street parking around campus.

Supervision:  The University requires a ratio of 1 adult to 10 minor students.   Please arrange for your club additional parents and coaches as needed.
