Format

5 round Swiss, Wisconsin rated. 10 divisions (K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, HS). G30, or G25, d5. For scoring purposes teams will be the top 3 student players. No ½ point byes for this tournament. Students can play only in their grade of attendance at school.

Awards

Seven (7) individual trophies in each division K to 8. One (1) team trophy for K, four (4) team trophies in grades 1 through 8. Three (3) individual trophies in each grade 9 to 12. Three (3) team trophies for combined HS division. Medals to all who do not earn a trophy.

Round Times

8:45 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:15 p.m.   Awards at 3:45 p.m.

No check-in for this tournament. Students need to report to their section to find their boards by 8:45 a.m. The building will open at 8:00 a.m. Pairings will be posted at the scoring table for each division and at the end of each row in which the division begins. Chairs for parents of Kindergarten and 1st grade players will be available. All USCF chess rules will apply for this tournament. Pairing issues, team codes, name spelling, grade listing issues all need to be addressed at chess control.

Registration Procedures

Registration and payment in advance online and pay via credit card or PayPal. No check in for this tournament. Onsite registration for Round 1 ends at 8:30 a.m. Onsite registration for Round 2 ends at 9:30 a.m. If opponents are a no show, then the remaining player may be repaired or receive a bye.

Entry Fees 

$35 online by 11:00 PM Thursday, February 23rd. $40 online by 11:00 pm Thursday, March 2nd; and $45 online by 11:00 pm on Thursday, March 9th.        $60 onsite registration. Please verify your participant’s registration by checking the online tournament list. If the name does not appear in the list, then the participant is not registered. No refunds for this tournament.

Group Pricing

Teams with 20 or more students are eligible for a discounted price. Please contact erin@wisconsinscholasticchess.org for registration and pricing. Teams that request to pay by invoice may also contact Erin for registration and pricing.

T-shirts

Every participant will receive a free t-shirt. Participants can choose their shirt size when they register. Those registering after February 23rd will receive a shirt, but size cannot be guaranteed. Students should pick up their shirts upon arrival. T-shirt sizes are: Youth S, M, L, XL, Adult S, M, L and XL. We will also sell t-shirts onsite at chess control while supplies last. Adults may buy a shirt for $20 with pre-payment online. Adults, please CLICK HERE TO ORDER.

T-Shirt sponsor

We are in search of a business who would like to sponsor the t-shirts. Your company logo would appear on the t-shirts with artwork needed before February 23.  If interested, please contact Bob at bob@wisconsinscholasticchess.org.

Hotel with Chess Rate

Our cooperating hotel this year will be Quality Suites Milwaukee Airport at 4488 S. 27th Street, Milwaukee 53221.   The chess rate is $80 ($92 with tax).  It comes with a free breakfast and has an indoor pool. Parking

Parking for this tournament can be found on local streets and beneath the UWM Student Union.    

Volunteers

We need 28 volunteers for this event. Needed are 8 scorekeepers, 11 floor TD’s, 2 posters, 2 for trophy set up, 3 for T-shirt distribution and 2 for chess control. Teams may cycle through volunteers for each position. In this case a school team may volunteer for one or more positions.  i.e.)  German Immersion volunteers to cover 4 scoring positions throughout the 5 rounds. Lunch

Onsite or patronize local fast-food restaurants.

Supervision

At least one designated adult supervisor must be present always during the tournament to oversee your school’s team, or individual participants who are in K through 8th grade.
